Dr. Alexander Schimpf

Founding Headmaster

A native of Waterloo, IL, Alexander Schimpf received his B.A. in Religious Studies from Indiana University in 2001. After spending several years in formation with the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius in Chicago, he undertook graduate studies at The Catholic University of America, where he eventually received his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2015. 

He taught at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX, and St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, OK. After the latter’s closure in 2017, he accepted a position as the Director of Marriage and Family Life Ministry for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, where he also served as a faculty member of the Blessed Stanley Rother Institute. 

A prolific speaker and writer, his work has appeared in publications such as the National Catholic Register, Crisis, Aleteia, the Imaginative Conservative, and Latin Mass Magazine. He lives in St. Louis with his wife, Sarah, and their children.

Grayson Gunn

HUMANITIES/ACADEMIC DEAN

Mr. Gunn is a St Louis native who graduated from Ave Maria University in 2021 with a BA in Theology and Minor in Philosophy. He returned to St Louis to teach high school Theology and has spent the last three years teaching high school humanities courses including Philosophy, Literature, and Rhetoric at Lafayette Academy, a classical Hillsdale Curriculum school.

He and his wife, Michaela, have been married since 2021 and have two children.

Jack Ryan

HUMANITIES

Jack Ryan will bring his love for Latin and history to the students at Chesterton Academy of St. Louis. Jack graduated from Saint Louis University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Catholic Studies, Classical Humanities, and Greek & Latin Language and Literature. He has a strong work ethic and a zeal for excellence in his work, which he gained, in part, from his years in the Boy Scouts.

Jack's love for Catholic intellectual traditions led him to study under the Dominicans at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. There, he studied moral and Trinitarian theology, philosophy, and medieval and Renaissance Italian history. Additionally, Jack has taught catechesis to eighth-grade confirmandi at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic School and served as a teacher's assistant, tutor, and substitute teacher for introductory Latin at Saint Louis University.

One of Jack's unique skills is his fluency in both classical and ecclesiastical Latin. He is also proficient in reading Ancient Greek. As a parishioner at the Oratory of Ss. Gregory and Augustine, he serves the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, further enhancing his knowledge of Latin and Catholic traditions. With his broad scope of knowledge and passion for teaching, Jack is committed to passing on the treasures he has learned to his students at Chesterton Academy.

Adam Gordon

MATH/SCIENCE

Growing up in South St. Louis County, Adam Gordon has always been fascinated with understanding how the world around him works. This led him to Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. As his time at college went on, he underwent a deepening conversion of mind and heart to the Lord and after graduating, he discerned the priesthood as a seminarian for the Archdiocese.

There, he continued to gape in wonder at the beautiful order of creation and the loving God who created it. Eventually, being called out of the seminary, he had a desire to teach others about this wonderful world. This led him to Kansas City, where he taught science at the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri. He was excited to bring his love for understanding the world back to St. Louis as a teacher at the Chesterton Academy.

Bernadette Lamb

FINE ARTS, HUMANITIES

Bernadette Lamb hails from the desert of Tucson, AZ, where she received her B.F.A. in Illustration & Design from the University of Arizona in 2020. A writer, illustrator, and graphic designer, she makes work for Catholic clients such as Parish Content and ProjectYM. In academia, she has tutored undergraduate writing and facilitated studio art classes, guiding students to communicate clearly with their audiences. She compled her M.F.A. in Illustration & Visual Culture at Washington University in St. Louis in 2023.

The heart of her practice is writing and illustrating fiction for young people that shines a light on relational healing. She has written short stories for anthologies with Twenty Hills Publishing and posts faith reflections and creative work online. As a CASTL faculty member, she is delighted to share with her students how the Lord reveals His goodness through the truth and beauty of art, literature, and theology.

Heather Vogt

SPANISH

Heather Vogt grew up in St. Charles, MO. She felt drawn to the Catholic Church while attending the Academy of the Sacred Heart as a child, but her journey to the Church had just begun. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Saint Louis University while also earning minors in Spanish and Theology. While at SLU, she was welcomed into the Catholic Church through Confirmation. She later moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she earned her Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Francis.

Over the years, Heather has taught various subjects at homeschool coops, a hybrid school, and a dance studio, while also homeschooling her own children. In addition, she helped create a high school youth ministry program at her parish in Fort Wayne, which she directed for several years. She has also danced for many years and performed with several groups, including the Billikens Baby Blues and the St. Louis Showstoppers.

She is now the owner of a portrait photography business. Heather is happily married and has been blessed with three children. She also has two cats, and she has taught one of them to press buttons to communicate in English. Heather is excited to join Chesterton as both a parent and teacher this fall.

Dr. Cecilia Pajor

HUMANITIES

Cecilia Pajor recently received her PhD in the Department of Philosophy at Saint Louis University,  upon completing her dissertation under the direction of Prof. Eleonore Stump. During her time as a graduate student, she has worked closely with the Catholic Studies Center, leading intellectual formation initiatives and teaching interdisciplinary Philosophy and Catholic Studies courses for SLU undergraduates. Cecilia earned her BA in Philosophy, with minors in Classics and Catholic Studies, from the University of Mary (Bismarck, ND) in 2020.

Her intellectual foundation has its roots in the classical high school education she received at Trinity School in Minnesota. This past spring, Cecilia returned to her hometown of Minneapolis to get married, and she now resides with her husband in University City.

Mr. Jake Jakubisin

Daniel “Jake” Jakubisin fell in love with Saint Louis as a young boy from Cleveland: First, the Arch. Then the City Museum. And finally the Saint Louis people themselves while on a service project with Cleveland State University. He was excited to become a full time resident of the Rome of the West in 2018 where he has spent countless hours supporting parents and building up the young men who come around Wespine Study Center.

He’s an entrepreneur, writer, poet, and woodworker, mixing a love of literature and the beauty of the Catholic faith with a profound passion for the wonderful, crazy world we live in. He loves marketing and helping leaders of all shapes and sizes find their voices. You can hear him corral some erudite Psalm 2 scholars live on the Sons & Kings Podcast.

Dr. Katie Radler

MATH/SCIENCE

Dr. Katie Radler is originally from St. Louis but she attended High School in Houston, TX. The beauty of the mountains and God’s creation drew her to Northern Arizona University for her B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Music. She continued her studies at Central Michigan University and earned a MA in Mathematics. After moving back to Saint Louis, she continued to pursue her love of mathematics at Saint Louis University to attain her PhD in mathematics. During which she developed a love for teaching and published multiple articles in academic journals.

Dr. Radler has been teaching high school Calculus for the last 6 years and is excited to continue teaching and sharing her passion and knowledge of mathematics and physics with the students at Chesterton Academy. Katie and her husband have been married since 2015 and have 3 children.

Maria Romine

Maria is a convert to Catholicism, current President of the Mary, Mother of God Curia for the Legion of Mary, founding member of the Francis Chesterton Rosary League in St. Louis, and member of the St. Louis Chesterton Society.

Professionally, Maria is an actress, public speaker, singer, English Country dance instructor, fight choreographer and entrepreneur. She is the Owner/Artistic Director of Swords and Roses® an all female stage combat troupe that performs at faires, festivals, conventions and parties. Maria has been professionally choreographing fights for 23 years and teaches classes in stage combat around the St. Louis area. When she is not choreographing for Passion plays or Shakespeare festivals, Maria can be found battling in family-friendly improv at ComedySportz St. Louis, playing with fire and dry ice at Mad Science events, speaking about Chesterton and Our Lady, or starring in her own one-woman Mary Magdalene show.

Maria has appeared in a music video, a Stephen Ministries film series, and three EWTN television series: The Theater of the Word, Inc., The Quest for Shakespeare and The Journey Home.  She is currently producing a podcast series for the Legion of Mary entitled At Your Service, Mary.

Joshua Beaumont

HUMANITIES

Mr. Beaumont was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, and studied theology and philosophy in the Boston area. He married his wife Angela in 2007, and their daughter Idell was born in 2016, while they were stationed in Monterey, CA. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Beaumont retired from active duty as an Arabic linguist and paratrooper in 2022. After leaving the Army, Mr. Beaumont taught Bible in Springfield, IL, and Latin at Providence Academy in Lemay.

The Beaumonts are members of the Cathedral Basilica, and can often be found at local museums, the Botanical Garden, or any bookshop they can find!

Rev. Michael Rennier

HUMANITIES

The Rev. Michael Rennier is Vice-Rector of the Oratory of Sts. Gregory and Augustine. He received his Master of Divinity from Yale, served as pastor in the Anglican Church, and subsequently entered the Catholic Church and was ordained through the Pastoral Provision for formerly Anglican clergy that was created by Pope St. John Paul II.

He is the Web Editor for Dappled Things Magazine, a regular contributor at Aleteia and his book The Forgotten Language - How Recovering the Poetics of the Mass Will Change Our Lives, is available from Sophia Institute.

Nothing makes Father Michael more excited than to see the faith come alive through the study of the depth and wonder of the Holy Scriptures, which communicate Christ himself. He's very much enjoying reading the Scriptures with the Chesterton students.

Dr. Thomas Barrows

HUMANITIES

Originally from south Texas, Thomas Barrows moved to St. Louis to join the St. Louis University PhD program in history. He has five years' experience teaching at SLU and recently defended his dissertation with distinction. Previously, Dr. Barrows earned his Master's degree from the University of Houston studying the spiritual and intellectual culture of early Norman Benedictines.

Though a specialist in the Middle Ages, Dr. Barrows delights in teaching every era of history as they all equally point to God's truth revealed in time -- a fact whose discovery led to his adult conversion. A former bartender, Dr. Barrows enjoys craft cocktails and fine spirits.

Rachel Uhlir

MATH/SCIENCE

Ms. Uhlir grew up living in Florida and Wisconsin. She then moved to Bismarck, North Dakota where she enjoyed tutoring math and science students and received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry with minors in math and Catholic studies from University of Mary. She then moved to St. Louis where she received her master’s degree in chemistry from Saint Louis University. During her time in graduate school she taught general chemistry labs at Saint Louis University and used lasers to study proteins.

After graduate school, Rachel spent several years developing new blood testing kits at a local startup company that focuses on providing affordable medical and scientific testing kits. She has a passion for helping people grow intellectually and in their relationship with God.

Jamie Eros

FINE ARTS

Jamie Lynn Eros has been an active singer, performer, and teacher for over 25 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Eastern Illinois University and her Master’s from The University of Iowa in Opera Performance.  While planning a career in professional singing, she had her first son and God changed her plans. She moved back to her hometown and opened a private voice and piano studio, discovering her true love of teaching and making music with people of all ages.

After converting to Catholicism, she decided to teach in the Catholic school system in Illinois and Missouri and has for the past 12 years in various capacities. Most recently, she was the general music teacher and campus ministry director at Saint Clare Catholic School in O’Fallon, Illinois. 

Jamie’s love for God led her to her husband Stephen.  They have 4 beautiful children, two dogs and a bearded dragon.  Jamie has a zest for life and a fire for Christ that she shares through music making with all her students!

Maria Jansen

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Maria Jansen is a co-founder and Executive Director of Chesterton Academy of St. Louis. She helped galvanize the founding team and served as founding Board Chair, helping guide the Academy from its earliest planning through its launch in 2023 and its first years of growth. 

After several years of volunteer leadership on the Board, she transitioned to the role of Executive Director, to support the Academy’s mission and continued growth with more dedication.

Maria and her husband, Seth, are the parents of six children. She is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Chesterton families, faculty, and supporters in building a school community centered on truth, beauty, goodness, and the joy of the Catholic faith.

Ewa Maria Miller

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Born in Poland, Ewa (pronounced "Eh-Va") escaped Communism at the age of three with her parents and were sponsored by a Catholic parish in CA where she spent most of her life.

She spent six years as a religious sister, first with The Carmelites and then with The Poor Clares before the Holy Spirit led her in a different direction.  Now she is happily married and has a daughter and son who attend St. Austin.

Ewa has been active in her parish, serving in their Jonah Ministry, Teams of Our Lady, and ACTS leadership. The past two years she has had the joy of working with her husband, Greg, in the dorm at Chaminade College Prep for Boys, where she was privileged to walk alongside young men as they grow in faith, maturity and responsibility.

Ewa is drawn to Chesterton Academy's mission of forming saints and joyful leaders because this is the same desire she has for her own children. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Chesterton community and contribute to an environment deeply rooted in the Catholic Faith which strives to teach young Catholics how to faithfully "be in the world but not of the world."

Julia Bergman

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

Julia Bergman is a proud St. Louis native, wife to Matthew, and mother of four amazing kids who keep her life full of joy, noise, and grace. After graduating from the University of Missouri–Columbia with a B.S. in Environmental Design (Interior Design), she began working with her family in the design business, blending creativity with teamwork.

As her love for the Catholic faith deepened, she began volunteering in various Catholic youth and young adult ministries and felt called to go further. She pursued a Master’s in Theological Studies from the Institute for Pastoral Theology through Ave Maria University—a journey that strengthened her faith and equipped her with new ways to share it with others.

This theological foundation supported her vocation as a mother and allowed her to serve youth in a variety of volunteer and professional roles while raising her young family. Once her children were all in school full-time, Julia felt called to return to work outside the home and spent several joyful and meaningful years as Campus Minister at St. Pius X Catholic High School. She also serves on the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd teaching team at her parish, St. Justin Martyr.

 After prayerful discernment, Julia was excited to step into the role of Executive Assistant, where she continues to serve the mission of Catholic education through organization, communication, and behind-the-scenes support. Though the role is different, her passion for helping others and fostering a Christ-centered environment remains at the heart of her work.

Julia’s heart is rooted in a deep desire to love and serve others—not just in the everyday, but with an eternal perspective. She follows the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 7:12: “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.This is the law and the prophets.” Julia hopes to walk with others toward Christ and is excited to help Chesterton Academy grow as a place where truth, beauty, and faith are truly alive in the St. Louis community.

Sarah Talluto

OFFICE COORDINATOR

Mrs. Talluto (formerly Gilmore) graduated from Belmont Abbey College in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Previously, she worked at a clinic providing therapy sessions for children with autism.

She previously served as Office Assistant at Chesterton Academy and is now excited to be working in her new role as Office Coordinator.

Phil & Michelle Malawey

DANCE INSTRUCTORS

Phillip and Michelle Malawey met in 1998 at a college swing dance and have been partners in dance and in life ever since.  In addition to teaching Beginning Swing, Lindy Hop, and Charleston dance classes at the Chesterton Academy of St. Louis, and Beginning Swing at the St. John Bosco Co-Op, they have taught introductory swing workshops at Saint John Paul II Preparatory School, ARCH Co-Op, and for parent groups at Chesterton and the Saint Austin School.  They are the blessed parents of five children, ages ten through twenty-one.

Phillip earned his Master of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois after receiving his Bachelors at Kettering University.  He is the Vice President of Engineering and  Operations at USI Technologies in Creve Coeur.

Michelle is a professional violinist and strings teacher.  She has earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees with emphasis in Violin Performance, and is an active performer in musical theater, symphonic, chamber and liturgical settings throughout the St. Louis area.  She teaches private violin lessons in her home studio and directs Soli Deo Strings, an educational orchestra program for homeschooled and privately-educated students.
